The Transportation Policy Board of Regional Planning Affiliation 1 (RPA-1) in northeast Iowa is pleased to announce the call for applications for Iowa’s Transportation Alternatives Program (Iowa’s TAP) and Surface Transportation Block Grant (STBG) funding for diverse transportation projects in our region and communities. Eligible projects for Iowa’s TAP funding include construction of walking and bicycling infrastructure such as sidewalks, ADA-compliant curb ramps, bicycle facilities, and paved multi-use trails, as well as certain community improvement and environmental mitigation activities. STBG funding can be used for all of the previously mentioned Iowa’s TAP eligible projects, as well as construction and reconstruction of roads, streets, and bridges. UERPC Receives Funding to Assist with Electric Vehicle Market Analysis Project in Northeast Iowa Upper Explorerland recently received a $12,000 grant from the Northeast Iowa Funders Network (NEIFN) and a $1,200 Economic Development Cost Share Program Award from Dairyland Power Cooperative and the Allamakee Clayton Electric Cooperative (ACEC) to help support an Electric Vehicle (EV) market analysis and acceleration project in Northeast Iowa. STBG & Iowa’s TAP Transportation Grants – Apps due Feb. 28

Applications for Iowa’s Transportation Alternatives Program (Iowa’s TAP) and Surface Transportation Block Grant (STBG) funds are now available for the UERPC region. These programs support diverse transportation projects within our region, from streets and bridges to sidewalks and transit. The current applicaiton cycle is for funding in federal fiscal year 2024. Eligible applicants include all public agencies and local governments within the RPA-1 region that have jurisdiction over public rights-of-way for transportation (including walking and bicycling facilities); public transportation agencies; and agencies with transportation planning responsibilities. The Northeast Iowa Regional Housing Trust Fund (NEIRHTF) is excited to announce they were awarded State Housing Trust Fund dollars of $229,763.  State Housing Trust Fund dollars are partnered together with local match to assist limited income households in our five-county region of Allamakee, Clayton, Fayette, Howard and Winneshiek.  Applications are available for first-time homebuyers, homeowners, landlord/for-profit organizations or non-profit organizations to promote and create affordable housing activities.  Funding availability can go up to $10,000 in the form of a grant or low-interest rate loan.  For an application or more information on the NEIRHTF program, please contact Sarah at 563-864-7551, ext. 1101.  Applications are also available in our housing section on our website, Click Here.

Iowa DOT Now Accepting for State Rec Trails Funding Cycle

The Iowa DOT is now accepting applications for the annual State Recreational Trails program funding cycle. Applications shall be either received via email by 5:00 pm to peggy.riecken@iowadot.us or postmarked by July 1, 2019. An email submission must still be followed by receipt of a single signed color original of the completed application via U.S. mail. The appropriation for State Fiscal Year 2020 (SFY 2020) is $1.5 million. Please note, the application form has been revised for this year’s cycle. A grant from Bank of the West’s Charitable Investments program, was awarded to Upper Explorerland’s Northeast Iowa Regional Housing Trust Fund (NEIRHTF) on behalf of Winneshiek County Development, Inc., in the amount of $4,000 to benefit the organization's housing programs throughout northeast Iowa. The NEIRHTF serves all of Allamakee, Clayton, Howard, and Winneshiek Counties. The goal of this program is to develop, redevelop, rehabilitate, and renovate single-family and/or multi-family owner-occupied and rental dwellings. American Heart Association Hosts Safe Routes to School Legislative Breakfast at Iowa State Capitol

The American Heart Association of Iowa held their first Legislative Breakfast of 2016 on Wednesday, January 13th at the Iowa State Capitol focusing on the need for a state funded Safe Routes to School (SRTS) program.  As a federally-funded program, SRTS provides the financial resources to repair sidewalks, hire crossing guards, and remove the barriers that discourage parents from allowing their students to walk to school.  Because Iowa has received limited federal funds, the American Heart Association is encouraging the state legislature to invest $1.8 million to create a state-funded Safe Routes to School program.
